Using an Au pair Agency, the Pros
With an Au pair agency there is usually a one-time application fee charged to participants, for au pairs it covers the assistance they receive in completing their program application. However, our services are free to Au pairs!
There are more pros than cons to using an Au pair Agency.
The pros of our Au pair Agency
1. Au Pair Program Costs
No charge for Au Pairs for our service and we ensure you will have a great, safe Au Pair experience!
2. Au Pair & Host Family Matching
With our Au pair agency, participants have access to the personal guidance of our matching expert, whether it is recommendations to host families or insight into the Canadian style of interviewing, agencies are an invaluable resource in helping participants make the right connection.
Au pair Matching Process
Families register online. This application system allows host families to search for au pairs based on specific traits such as childcare skills, nationality and driving experience.
Families can review your application, photos and video to see if you will be a good fit for their family. Should they wish to interview you in person, you will receive an email from Au pair Canada to notify you of this.We will provide you with helpful information about interviewing, and information about the families who are interested in speaking with you.
During the host family selection process, both you and the host family are required to speak to each other over the phone at least two times prior to making the decision to match. When speaking to a family, you should inquire about the family’s children, their childcare needs, lifestyle and interests. Families and au pairs make the decision to match together; this decision is not made by Au pair Canada.
3. Program Support
Our Au pair Agency will help you find a safe family and give you support during your stay in Canada, every au pair is given a choice of families over a 2-3 week period
One of the biggest differences between a direct placement and an agency is that at an agency, support doesn’t end when the placement begins.
We negotiate on your behalf that you have a good pocket money, that you would be able to attend language classes, that you will have holidays and other rights.
We give you information to apply for a visa, and provide support during your time abroad many of our staff members have been au pairs previously and know what you can expect.
4- Screening & Training
Our host families must go through an interview by an Area Director, submit references, provide us with a valid au pair job offer and sign a host family contract.
Our host families are looking to provide loving childcare for their children. They also want to share their home with a young person from another country and have a meaningful cultural exchange experience. When you apply to become an au pair, you can be sure that you’ll be placed with a carefully screened host family, who is excited to welcome you to their home and Canada.
Au pair Canada only accepts host families who can provide a comfortable and supportive environment for their au pair. Au pair Canada requires that families complete our online host family application, which includes detailed information about the family’s children, occupations, reasons for hosting an au pair and information about their home and community.
Every host family is interviewed by a local Area Director in the host family’s home. During the interview, the Area Director will discuss the family’s motivation for wanting to host an au pair. The Area Director provides the family with helpful information about what to expect once the au pair arrives to their home.
5. Paperwork, Travel and Contracts
Once the host family and au pair have decided on a date of arrival for the au pair, our Au pair agency facilitates the rest. This means, logistics and contracts are managed by us. For your protection and safety, all our families will sign a contract with the au pair.
Each host family agrees to:
- Provide the au pair with a private bedroom
- Limit the au pair’s working hours to no more than 45 per week, and no more than 10 hours per day
- Limit the au pair’s responsibilities to childcare and light housekeeping as it relates to the children
- Pay the au pair a weekly stipend and provide a clean and happy environment
In addition to our careful host family selection process, host families must meet all of the requirements set by Au pair Canada including:
- Speaking English as the primary language in their home and Being fluent in English
- Being willing to comply with Au pair Canada terms and conditions
- Canadian citizens or permanent legal residents
Au pairs and host families can then focus on what is most important, cultural exchange and live-in childcare!
